The Sectors Where Engineers are Found

by Fred Nwaozor > This classification captures the major ecosystems or sectors where professional engineers operate. What matters is how their roles shift in focus across these sectors, even though the core engineering principles remain the same. 1. Government (Policy formulation & implementation) In government, engineers function less as hands-on designers and more as technical decision-makers. They contribute to national development by shaping policies, regulations, and standards that guide engineering practice. For example, a civil or telecom engineer in a regulatory agency may help draft infrastructure policies, evaluate national projects, or enforce compliance with safety and quality standards. Their authority ensures that engineering decisions align with public interest; balancing cost, safety, sustainability, and long-term impact. Super Eagles emerge 38th in Latest FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been ranked 38th globally in the latest FIFA ranking released by the world governing body on Wednesday, 19th November 2025.

The Super Eagles moved up three places from 41st being their previous position in the table but still trail Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria, who remain Africa’s top four teams, respectively, in the latest ranking.

Spain kept their hold on top spot, with Argentina, France, and England staying close behind them, respectively.

The ranking shifted after a busy international window that ended UEFA and CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers and settled the final CAF and AFC play-off fixtures.

FIFA said the new table would guide the draws for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Play-Off Tournament and the European Play-Off scheduled for Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Brazil were the biggest movers in the top ten, rising two places to fifth and pushing Portugal and the Netherlands down to sixth and seventh.

FIFA confirmed that 149 matches, including 79 friendly games, were played since the previous update, prompting the latest shifts in the global ranking.

The rise follows two competitive matches played by the Super Eagles.

It could be recalled that Nigeria beat Gabon 4–1 and drew 1–1 with DR Congo before losing 4–3 on penalties in the just concluded CAF playoff matches.

The results however lifted the team despite missing out on the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria now have 1,502.46 points, placing them fifth in Africa.
