Tech Impact On Nigeria Immigration Service

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is a critical institution responsible for managing migration, border control, and the issuance of travel documents in Nigeria. Its core mandate includes regulating the entry and exit of persons, issuing passports and visas, and enforcing immigration laws. In a rapidly globalizing world, the NIS occupies a strategic position in national security, economic development, and international relations. Marwa warns Drug Cartels on Trafficking

Rufus Okoro
The Chairman of the Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Buba Marwa (rtd), has warned drug barons and trafficking cartels to quit the illicit trade or face a more aggressive crackdown as he commences his second tenure.

It's noteworthy that President Bola Tinubu reappointed Marwa on Friday, November 14, 2025, for another five-year tenure.

Addressing jubilant staff at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja immediately after his reappointment, Marwa said his renewed mandate signals tougher operations against drug syndicates.

“The cartels haven’t seen anything yet. This second tenure will be hell and bleak for them. Drugs shall not pass, in or out of Nigeria,” the NDLEA boss declared.

Marwa thanked President Tinubu, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Minister of Finance, and the Agency’s local and international partners for supporting NDLEA’s efforts.

He urged those involved in drug trafficking, especially cannabis growers, to embrace legitimate ventures, noting NDLEA’s Alternative Development Unit is ready to assist them.

He warned that those who refuse would face arrest, asset seizure as well as prosecution.

Marwa equally reiterated NDLEA’s commitment to drug demand reduction, announcing expanded rehabilitation efforts.

The agency currently operates 30 rehab centres across the country, with seven more to be completed under the 2025 budget, ensuring one rehab centre per state.

He therefore commended the Ministers of Health and Education for supporting NDLEA’s initiatives, including mandatory drug testing for new tertiary institution students.
