The Sectors Where Engineers are Found

by Fred Nwaozor > This classification captures the major ecosystems or sectors where professional engineers operate. What matters is how their roles shift in focus across these sectors, even though the core engineering principles remain the same. 1. Government (Policy formulation & implementation) In government, engineers function less as hands-on designers and more as technical decision-makers. They contribute to national development by shaping policies, regulations, and standards that guide engineering practice. For example, a civil or telecom engineer in a regulatory agency may help draft infrastructure policies, evaluate national projects, or enforce compliance with safety and quality standards. Their authority ensures that engineering decisions align with public interest; balancing cost, safety, sustainability, and long-term impact. Here, engineering judgment influences what gets built, how it is built, and whether it should be built at all. 2. Academia (Teach...

"You Must Be Passion-driven to achieve Your Career Goal" - Nwaozor

Frank Musa
The renowned tech expert and analyst, Fred Nwaozor has posited that one needs to be resilient and focused towards achieving his career dreams.

In a post released on his LinkedIn page on November 12, 2015, the techpreneur stated that no one could attain his or her career height if they failed to be and remain passion-driven while walking on their career path.

"Achieving a huge success in a career isn't rocket science. Yes, you read me rightly," the telecom engineer said.

"You must be willing and ready to invest and sacrifice. Of course, you have to put in what you possess to acquire what you desire but can't boast of.

"Mind you, investment does not really require money. Though the latter is actually needed when walking through a career pathway, you may need to sacrifice something different that's within your reach.

"You must equally be prepared to nurture your investment. This phase takes time, tolerance, and patience. Hence, you must be resilient and willing to wait amid all odds.

"You have to build, or connect to, a network; a circle of like minds. This helps to share and coordinate your interests as well as realize the right channel to walk on.

"You must also know when to restrategize, or when to change a career path, as the journey progresses.

"Most importantly, do not see yourself as a competitor. Never see anyone as a rival while riding on a career. This could be destructive.

"Above all, you must be enthusiastic about your career. Yes, career yields money and could make you wealthy and famous, but these conceived prospects shouldn't preoccupy your mindset.

"If your mind is centred on wealth while pursuing a career, I bet, you won't get to the top or attain your desired height.

"Focus on the personal joy and innermost peace you derive from the career. These are factors that can trigger your career growth even when it’s least expected.

"Attaining a career height isn't a rocket science, but an odyssey loaded with rosy and thorny branches. Think about it," Nwaozor concluded.
