The Sectors Where Engineers are Found

by Fred Nwaozor > This classification captures the major ecosystems or sectors where professional engineers operate. What matters is how their roles shift in focus across these sectors, even though the core engineering principles remain the same. 1. Government (Policy formulation & implementation) In government, engineers function less as hands-on designers and more as technical decision-makers. They contribute to national development by shaping policies, regulations, and standards that guide engineering practice. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the ten finalists for the 2025 African Footballer of the Year award for the Men Category, setting the stage for one of the most competitive editions in recent memory.

This year’s shortlist celebrates both the icons who continue to define African excellence and the rising stars shaping the continent’s footballing future.

The nominees are: Frank Anguissa (Cameroon – Napoli), Fiston Mayele (DR Congo – Pyramids FC), Mohamed Salah (Egypt – Liverpool), Denis Bouanga (Gabon – Los Angeles FC), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea – Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco – Paris Saint-Germain), Oussama Lamlouhi (Tunisia – Étoile du Sahel), Victor Osimhen (Nigeria – Galatasaray), Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal – Everton), and Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal – Tottenham Hotspur).

Each player arrives with a compelling story. Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi remain the continent’s most consistent performers in Europe’s elite leagues.

Victor Osimhen’s resurgence in Turkey has reignited his reputation as one of Africa’s deadliest strikers.

Meanwhile, Fiston Mayele’s brilliance with Pyramids FC has strengthened the argument for home-based African stars to be recognized on the global stage.

Serhou Guirassy’s goal-scoring exploits with Borussia Dortmund have made him a major contender, whilst Senegal’s young duo — Pape Matar Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye — embody a fresh wave of talent eager to take the mantle from the established greats.

Who eventually becomes the overall winner? This will be revealed soonest as CAF is set to draw the curtain later in the year.
