The Sectors Where Engineers are Found

by Fred Nwaozor > This classification captures the major ecosystems or sectors where professional engineers operate. What matters is how their roles shift in focus across these sectors, even though the core engineering principles remain the same. 1. Government (Policy formulation & implementation) In government, engineers function less as hands-on designers and more as technical decision-makers. They contribute to national development by shaping policies, regulations, and standards that guide engineering practice. For example, a civil or telecom engineer in a regulatory agency may help draft infrastructure policies, evaluate national projects, or enforce compliance with safety and quality standards. Their authority ensures that engineering decisions align with public interest; balancing cost, safety, sustainability, and long-term impact. Here, engineering judgment influences what gets built, how it is built, and whether it should be built at all. 2. Academia (Teach...

Tinubu commissions Landmark Projects in Imo, hails Uzodinma

Frank Musa
The Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu has graciously commissioned three landmark projects in Imo State, namely: the 52-kilometre Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Road, the Control-Assumpta Twin Fly-Over, as well as the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC).

In a colourful ceremony witnessed by numerous invited politicians across the country, royal fathers, public servants, workers, and, students, the President described the projects as laudable achievements by the government of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

In his remark, the governor stated that it was an indication to prove to the people that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remained a functional and human-friendly party in Nigeria, contrary to some persons' perceptions.

Uzodinma said: "The All Progressives Congress (APC) was birthed with a vision to provide Nigeria with a purposeful, progressive alternative to governance, grounded in equity, development, and national renewal.

"Over the past decade, our party has made significant progress in translating that vision into reality. From critical infrastructure to economic reform, security, and human capital development, the APC has charted a course that reflects commitment, resilience, and impact. "In my book, "A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria", I have attempted to document this journey in its fullness - its triumphs, its trials, and its transformation. "This work, consisting of ten chapters and a foreword by H.E. Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is not a self-congratulatory piece, but a reflective, honest examination of our performance in power. It offers insight into how far we’ve come, what we’ve done right, where we must improve, and how we can strengthen the progressive movement in Nigeria. "I deeply commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast leadership, bold reforms, and unrelenting dedication to the APC and to Nigeria. His vision continues to inspire our collective mission." The newly completed facilities, now open for public use, were celebrated with music, cultural displays, and widespread excitement.
