Black Thursday

Rostrum The ancient narrow pathway had become so bad that they could not find their way to their destination as the three moved in a grey Honda Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) being piloted by Dayo who was very mindful of the steering. It was on a Thursday. The 35-year-old Misters Dayo, Emeka and Okon were old time friends who reunited just a few days ago at Nsukka in Enugu State having lost contacts about eight years back, or thereabouts, after their graduation from one of the reputable higher citadels of learning in Nigeria situated in the Eastern part of the country, precisely University of Nigeria Nsukka popularly known by its acronym ‘U.N.N’. Obi debunks Rumour on Purported Meeting with Trump

Ken Akpan
The erstwhile Anambra State Governor and 2023 Presidential flag-bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has strongly debunked the news making rounds on his purported recent meeting with the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump.

In the same vein, Obi equally debunked another purported meeting where it was reported he met with the current National Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), M.C Oluomo in the latter's office in Abuja, the Nigeria’s capital Territory.

In the public memo posted on his social media handle, on the X (formerly Twitter), titled "Clarification on Fake News and photos", on September 24, 2025, Obi described the rumour as 'politically motivated' and fallacious.

"My attention has been drawn to some pictures currently circulating on social media, falsely portraying meetings I never had.

"One of such images purports to show me with the US President Donald Trump, alongside a fabricated claim that he praised me. Another seeks to depict me with MC Oluomo in his office.

"Let me state categorically that both pictures are fake and doctored, and the accompanying stories are entirely false. I have not met Mr Trump recently, nor have I had any such meeting with MC Oluomo.

"These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society. They are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public.

"Nigerians and the international community must remain vigilant, verify information before sharing, and resist the culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.

"For the avoidance of doubt, if I had such meetings, I would have personally made them public on my X handle. My politics has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity; it is about confronting the real problems of Nigeria and working towards solutions grounded in integrity, accountability, and transparency.

"My politics is strictly focused on addressing the plight of the suffering Nigerians, by tackling insecurity, rule of law, education, healthcare, and pulling millions out of poverty.
