Meet Nigeria’s Nationalist, Obafemi Awolowo

Rufus Okoro Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909 – 1987) was a Nigerian nationalist, lawyer, statesman, and one of the country’s most influential political leaders. Born Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo on March 6, 1909, in IkennĂ©, present-day Ogun State, Nigeria. He studied law at the University of London and qualified as a barrister. Awolowo founded the Action Group (AG) political party in 1951. He served as the Premier of the Western Region from 1954 to 1960, later emerged the Leader of the Opposition in Nigeria’s federal parliament. D'Tigress wins Women’s Afrobasket Trophy

The Nigeria's female basketball team, D’Tigress, has graciously won the 2025 FIFA Women’s Afrobasket championship after defeating Mali in the final, on Sunday, 3rd August 2025.

The Rena Wakama-led side clinched the title at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Super Falcons beat Morocco to lift 10th WAFCON Trophy

With the win, Nigeria made history as the first country to win the tournament for five consecutive times, hence indicating their dominance on the continent.

The recorded victory also marked their 29th straight win in the competition, signifying an unbeaten streak that dates back to 2017.
