US gives Reasons for reducing Visa Validity for Nigerians

The United States' (US') Government has reportedly disclosed the reasons for reducing visa validity for Nigerians.

It could be recalled that the US government recently announced that it would now give only three-month, single-entry visas to Nigerian applicants instead of the usual five-year, multiple-entry visa.

Nigerians lament over new US Visa policy on Nigeria

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria later stated that the government’s decision was not a retaliatory move as being speculated, saying the changes were part of global efforts to align visa policies with security priorities in respect of the current security situation across the globe.

It was reported that the US government disclosed two main reasons for taking the recent severe decision.

Hence, decision was hinged on the "overstaying of visas by some Nigerians and the government’s intention to access some records of Nigerian visa applicants".
