Meet Nigeria’s Nationalist, Obafemi Awolowo

Rufus Okoro Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909 – 1987) was a Nigerian nationalist, lawyer, statesman, and one of the country’s most influential political leaders. Born Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo on March 6, 1909, in Ikenné, present-day Ogun State, Nigeria. He studied law at the University of London and qualified as a barrister. Awolowo founded the Action Group (AG) political party in 1951. He served as the Premier of the Western Region from 1954 to 1960, later emerged the Leader of the Opposition in Nigeria’s federal parliament. After 20 yrs in Coma, Saudi 'Sleeping Prince' passes on

The Saudi Arabia's royal Prince, Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal, who has been in coma for two decades now, eventually died on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

The thirty-five-year Talal reportedly went into coma following a ghastly motor accident in London, the United Kingdom (UK) in 2005.

“The Global Imams Council extends its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the esteemed Royal Family, on the passing of Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who passed away after a long struggle that lasted nearly twenty years following a tragic accident.” The Council of Global Imams stated.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, said: “With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow, we mourn our beloved son, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. May Allah have mercy on him, who passed away to Allah’s mercy today.”

Talal was barely 15 when the accident occurred while he was studying at a military college in the UK.

He suffered critical brain injuries and internal bleeding, leaving him in a complete coma.

He was later taken to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he was kept on life support under constant medical care for almost 20 years.

The late Prince was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud and a nephew of billionaire business tycoon, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal.
