The Sectors Where Engineers are Found

by Fred Nwaozor > This classification captures the major ecosystems or sectors where professional engineers operate. What matters is how their roles shift in focus across these sectors, even though the core engineering principles remain the same. 1. Government (Policy formulation & implementation) In government, engineers function less as hands-on designers and more as technical decision-makers. They contribute to national development by shaping policies, regulations, and standards that guide engineering practice. ASUU suspends ongoing Warning Industrial Action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning industrial action declared penultimate week across public universities in Nigeria.

The Union President, Chris Piwuna, announced the suspension on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, during an organized press conference at the union’s national headquarters in Abuja, the Nigeria’s Capital Territory.

Piwuna said the decision followed the intervention of the Senate and other concerned Nigerians who appealed for dialogue between the union and the Federal Government.

He, however, noted that the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU resolved to grant the government a one-month window to address all unresolved issues that led to the strike.

Piwuna stressed that the union remained committed to defending the welfare of its members and the revitalization of public universities across the country, warning that failure by the government to act within the given period could trigger a resumption of the industrial action.
