The Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s national security architecture.

According to the report from the State’s House, the President appointed Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa. Until his new appointment, Oluyede was the country’s Chief of Army Staff.

Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. However, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, including General Musa, for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership to the nation.

He charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship within the Armed Forces.

All appointments reportedly take immediate effect.

This is happening barely a few weeks later when there was alleged coup plot attempt, in which about 17 military officers were reportedly arrested over the incident.
