Meet Nigeria’s Nationalist, Obafemi Awolowo

Rufus Okoro Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909 – 1987) was a Nigerian nationalist, lawyer, statesman, and one of the country’s most influential political leaders. Born Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo on March 6, 1909, in Ikenné, present-day Ogun State, Nigeria. He studied law at the University of London and qualified as a barrister. Awolowo founded the Action Group (AG) political party in 1951. He served as the Premier of the Western Region from 1954 to 1960, later emerged the Leader of the Opposition in Nigeria’s federal parliament. Chelsea wins Club World Cup Final to clinch Trophy

The final match of the FIFA Club World Cup played on Sunday, 13th July 2025 in New Jersey, U.S.A, saw the English side, Chelsea FC emerging victoriously as they fiercely humiliated their counterpart, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a 3-0 win.

It could be recalled that the French side, PSG won the just concluded European Champions League, in which the final took place in Munich, Germany in May, 2025.

PSG was the favourite ahead of the game at MetLife Stadium. Luis Enrique's side came into the tournament having dominantly won the Champions League.

Yet they were no match for the "Blues", as Cole Palmer struck a first-half brace and later turned provider for Joao Pedro to make it 3-0 just before the interval.

Robert Sanchez made several big saves in the second-half to keep the Chelsea lead intact, as the PSG severally struggled to bounce back in the field. Liam Delap also had two opportunities to add to the Blues' advantage, but was twice thwarted by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Scenes of joy greeted the full-time whistle. From New Jersey to London – and across the world – Chelsea numerous supporters were seen celebrating in their numbers.

The Blues' players and staff did so long after the final whistle. The victory made Reece James to emerge as the first captain to lift the newly created trophy.
