ECOWAS Convenes Meeting On Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger's Withdrawal

The Council of Ministers of The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has convened an extraordinary meeting in Accra, Ghana, to deliberate on the proposed withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic from the regional bloc.

The Chairman of the Council, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed this on Thursday, 24th April 2025, in a statement issued from his office aide.

The Extraordinary Session follows directive from the Authority of Heads of State and Government during its 66th Ordinary Session, mandating the Council to adopt modalities and a contingency plan for the disengagement of the three Sahelian nations.
