Tech Impact On Nigeria Immigration Service

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is a critical institution responsible for managing migration, border control, and the issuance of travel documents in Nigeria. Its core mandate includes regulating the entry and exit of persons, issuing passports and visas, and enforcing immigration laws. Earthquake ravages Bangladesh as Many feared dead, injured

Ken Akpan
Five people, including a child, were feared dead and about 100 reportedly injured after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Bangladesh on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Buildings were also damaged in many areas, including the densely populated capital Dhaka.

Authorities said tremors were felt in eastern states in neighbouring India that border Bangladesh, but there were no immediate reports of major damage there.

The head of Bangladesh’s interim government, Muhammad Yunus, said the injured included students from Dhaka University, factory workers in the city of Gazipur, and residents of Narsingdi, the epicentre of the earthquake.

However, his statement gave no details of how the five died.

The police earlier said three people had been killed when the railing of a six-storey building collapsed during the earthquake.

Several of the injured taken to hospital from Narsingdi, about 40 km (25 miles) east of Dhaka, were in a critical condition, health adviser Nurjahan Begum told reporters.

The fire department disclosed some people had been injured when bricks and loose cement fell from buildings that were under construction.
