Tech Impact On Nigeria Immigration Service

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is a critical institution responsible for managing migration, border control, and the issuance of travel documents in Nigeria. Its core mandate includes regulating the entry and exit of persons, issuing passports and visas, and enforcing immigration laws. In a rapidly globalizing world, the NIS occupies a strategic position in national security, economic development, and international relations. Over the years, the increasing complexity of migration patterns and transnational crime has placed greater demands on the NIS. Issues such as human trafficking, illegal migration, and identity fraud require sophisticated and proactive approaches. Traditional manual systems are no longer sufficient to address these challenges effectively, thereby necessitating the adoption of modern technologies. Technology has become a transformative tool in the operations of immigration services worldwide. For the NIS, leveraging digital solutions enhances efficien...

Obi debunks Rumour on Purported Meeting with Trump

Ken Akpan
The erstwhile Anambra State Governor and 2023 Presidential flag-bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has strongly debunked the news making rounds on his purported recent meeting with the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump.

In the same vein, Obi equally debunked another purported meeting where it was reported he met with the current National Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), M.C Oluomo in the latter's office in Abuja, the Nigeria’s capital Territory.

In the public memo posted on his social media handle, on the X (formerly Twitter), titled "Clarification on Fake News and photos", on September 24, 2025, Obi described the rumour as 'politically motivated' and fallacious.

"My attention has been drawn to some pictures currently circulating on social media, falsely portraying meetings I never had.

"One of such images purports to show me with the US President Donald Trump, alongside a fabricated claim that he praised me. Another seeks to depict me with MC Oluomo in his office.

"Let me state categorically that both pictures are fake and doctored, and the accompanying stories are entirely false. I have not met Mr Trump recently, nor have I had any such meeting with MC Oluomo.

"These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society. They are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public.

"Nigerians and the international community must remain vigilant, verify information before sharing, and resist the culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.

"For the avoidance of doubt, if I had such meetings, I would have personally made them public on my X handle. My politics has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity; it is about confronting the real problems of Nigeria and working towards solutions grounded in integrity, accountability, and transparency.

"My politics is strictly focused on addressing the plight of the suffering Nigerians, by tackling insecurity, rule of law, education, healthcare, and pulling millions out of poverty.
