NUC inaugurates Committee for Disbursement of #50bn to varsities

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, has officially inaugurated a high profile 9-man Committee responsible for overseeing the disbursement of the Fifty Billion Naira (₦50 billion) earned academic allowance/earned allowance to eligible staff across Federal Universities, Inter-University Centres, and Divisions of Agricultural Colleges, in Nigeria.

The inauguration event took place on 24th April 2025 at the NUC headquarters, Abuja, the Nigeria's capital territory.

Mr. Mohammed Faruk was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee. It was reported that the nine members of the committee were carefully selected to assist in implementing this crucial initiative as mandated by the Federal Government.

This significant investment in the education sector is a reflection of Government's commitment to improve the welfare of university staff and enhance the overall quality of higher education in the country.

The committee is expected to clarify the specific criteria for eligibility and outline the disbursement process and submit the report within two weeks from the date of inauguration.
